AERO, 25 km south of SANDSPIT on Cumshewa Inlet, was the only site in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS where RAILWAY LOGGING took place. A.P. ALLISON established the MORESBY ISLAND camp in 1936 and it soon became a major supplier of Sitka SPRUCE. A crown corporation named Aero Timber took over the camp in WWII as spruce was vital for building airplanes. After the war the operation was sold at a low price to the POWELL RIVER CO. The railway ran until 1955. By 1967 the camp was abandoned.
