Alkali Lake Ranch

ALKALI LAKE RANCH , 50 km south of WILLIAMS LAKE, is believed to be the first beef cattle ranch in western Canada and is one of the largest in BC. Founded in 1861 by the German-born Herman Otto Bowe, the ranch remained in his family until 1910; that year it was sold to an Englishman, Charles Wynn Johnson, who added to the holdings over the next 30 years.
