ANNACIS ISLAND in DELTA lies in the south arm of the FRASER R near the east end of LULU ISLAND. Originally used as a FISHING site by FIRST NATIONS people, it was called Annance's Island after the METIS fur trader Francis ANNANCE. Starting in 1953 a large part of the island was developed as an industrial park by the Duke of Westminster. Deep-sea SHIPPING port facilities were built in the 1970s, along with a major sewage treatment plant.
