Arbutus


ARBUTUS (Arbutus menziesii), also known as the madrona, is the only broad-leafed evergreen tree native to Canada. It is the largest member of the Heather (Ericaceae) family. Usually found close to the ocean on rocky bluffs, the species is confined to a narrow coastal habitat in southern BC and, in the southernmost portion of its range in BC, is usually found with DOUGLAS FIR and Garry OAK.
