Atkinson, Point

ATKINSON, POINT, at the west end of W VANCOUVER, guards the northern entrance to BURRARD INLET. The present LIGHTHOUSE, now automated and designated a National Historic Site, was erected in 1912, replacing the original wooden structure dating from 1875. It is surrounded by Lighthouse Park (75 ha) with spectacular views of VANCOUVER across the inlet. The point was named in 1792 by George VANCOUVER after Thomas Atkinson, a British naval officer.
