AUSTRALIAN, 27 km south of QUESNEL on the east side of the FRASER R, is a farming settlement and site of a former Pacific Great Eastern Rwy station (see BC RAIL). It is named after the Australian ranch and roadhouse, founded in the early 1860s by settlers who had worked earlier in the Australian gold rush.
