Discovery


DISCOVERY was Capt George VANCOUVER's ship during his epic survey of the BC coastline from 1792 to 1794. Launched in England in 1789, it was 29 m long, weighed only 303 tonnes and carried a crew of 86, plus 14 marines. It sailed to the West Coast in company with the smaller Chatham. After it returned to England in 1795 Discovery was armed with heavy guns and took part in the attack on Copenhagen under Admiral Nelson in 1801.
