Douglas, Amelia (Connolly)


DOUGLAS, Amelia (Connolly), governor's wife (b 1812, Fort Assiniboine, Rupertsland; d 1890, Victoria). She was the daughter of William CONNOLLY, a NORTH WEST CO (NWC) trader, and his Cree wife Miyo Nipiy. They raised her at FUR TRADE posts in the northwest, and when she was 9 years old the NWC merged with the HBC and the family moved to NEW CALEDONIA, where her father was a chief factor with the reorganized HBC.
