Duncan Dam


DUNCAN DAM, located 42 km north of KASLO at the south end of Duncan Lk, was the first of 3 dams constructed by BC HYDRO as a result of the COLUMBIA R TREATY. Construction of the earth-filled water storage dam began in Sept 1964 and was completed by Aug 1967. The structure is 40 m high and extends 800 m across the Duncan R valley. The river flows south 10 km to KOOTENAY LK. See also HYDROELECTRICITY.
