DURIEU, Paul, Roman Catholic missionary (b 4 Dec 1830, Saint-Pal-de-Mons, France; d 1 June 1899, New Westminster). He entered the order of the OBLATES OF MARY IMMACULATE in 1848 in France and was ordained a priest in 1854. Later that year he arrived in the Pacific Northwest to begin his missionary career in what is now Washington state; he remained there until 1859, when most of the Oblates moved north to their new headquarters at ESQUIMALT.
