Ecoole

ECOOLE  () , 37 km southwest of PORT ALBERNI on VANCOUVER ISLAND, is a former NUU-CHAH-NULTH (Nootka) village site and FISHING settlement on the southeast side of Seddall Island near the head of BARKLEY SOUND. The name can be translated as "bushes on hill." A trading post was established here in the 1850s. BC PACKERS had a PILCHARD reduction plant here in the 1920s and 1930s, but the site was later abandoned.
