Emerald Lake

EMERALD LAKE is in YOHO NATIONAL PARK in a spectacular mountain setting northwest of FIELD. Drained by the Emerald R, a tributary of the KICKING HORSE R, it was visited in 1882 by the famed mountain guide and outfitter Tom Wilson, who named it for its brilliant colour. In 1902 the CPR, as part of its attempt to attract tourists to the mountains, built a chalet that is still in operation. The lake was featured on the back of the Canadian $10 bill from 1954 to 1971.
