Emory City


EMORY CITY is an abandoned MINING town on the FRASER R, 18 km north of HOPE. It was first settled in the winter of 1858–59 by prospectors looking for gold (see GOLD RUSH) on nearby Emory's Bar. Named for one of the miners, the townsite flourished briefly, then was eclipsed by YALE. It boomed again during the railway construction of the 1880s.
