EQUESTRIAN SPORTS date back to the early settlement of the province, when horses were used extensively for travel and manual labour but were also ridden recreationally. Early RODEOS included horse events. Organized equestrian riding under international rules was taken up seriously in BC in the late 1950s; Jean McKenzie and Inez Profpe-Credo became the first British Columbians to succeed on the international level by winning a dressage-team bronze in the 1967 Pan American Games.
