Fur Seal, Northern


FUR SEAL, NORTHERN (Callorhinus ursinus), is a carnivorous marine mammal. Males annually migrate between their breeding grounds in the N Pacific and the coast of California. The migration occurs many kilometres offshore, but sometimes animals are seen in JUAN DE FUCA STRAIT. Dark brown or grey in colour, with large shoulders and front flippers, fur seals breed in the summer at only a few rookeries, mostly on the Pribilof Islands but also on Robben Island and the Commander and Kurile Islands....
