Gaultier, Marie-Angele


GAULTIER, Marie-Angele, missionary (b 9 Feb 1828, Vaudreuil, QC; d 25 May 1898, Duncan). Raised on a farm in Lower Canada (QC), she entered the congregation of the SISTERS OF ST ANN in 1849 and took the name Sister Marie-Angele. She trained as a teacher and arrived in VICTORIA in 1858 with 3 other women religious, the first Christian nuns on VANCOUVER ISLAND, to start a mission.
