Genelle

GENELLE, pop 823, is a growing residential and light industrial community 12 km south of CASTLEGAR on the west side of the COLUMBIA R. In about 1900 it was the site of a SAWMILL established by Peter Genelle to supply lumber for the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Co (now COMINCO) plant at TRAIL. It includes the area known as China Creek, a stopping place on an early wagon ROAD from Trail to ROBSON, where CHINESE miners once panned for GOLD.
