GODFREY, David, teacher, writer (b 9 Aug 1938, Winnipeg) and Ellen (Swartz), businessperson, writer (b 1942, Chicago). After attending university, David Godfrey served with CUSO in Ghana, then returned to Canada to teach literature and creative writing at Univ of Toronto and York Univ. He was a leading member of a new generation of cultural nationalists who vitalized Canadian publishing in the 1960s and 1970s.
