Grassy Plains

GRASSY PLAINS, 30 km south of BURNS LAKE on the south side of FRANÇOIS LK, is a LOGGING, AGRICULTURAL and ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY) community first settled in 1905 by farmers from BELLA COOLA and HAZELTON. The area is strongly influenced by the DAKELH (Carrier) First Nations and a number of CHESLATTA people live on a nearby reserve. MENNONITES moved into the region about 1940.
