Interurbans


INTERURBANS were electric railways connecting communities within two areas: southern VANCOUVER ISLAND and the Lower Mainland. The first Interurban in BC was also the first in N America. It opened in 1891, running between NEW WESTMINSTER and downtown VANCOUVER through then-unsettled BURNABY. Known as the Central Park Line, it became part of the new BC ELECTRIC RWY CO in 1897.
