JARVIS, Donald, artist (b 1923, Vancouver; d Mar 2001, Vancouver). He studied at the Vancouver School of Art (see EMILY CARR INSTITUTE OF ART & DESIGN) with B.C. BINNING and Jack SHADBOLT, and after graduating in 1948 continued his studies with Hans Hofmann in New York. Returning to VANCOUVER, he was one of a small group of abstract painters who led the burgeoning visual ARTS scene in the 1950s.
