JOWETT, Alice Elizabeth, hotel keeper, prospector (b 5 Nov 1853, Bradford, England; d 1955, Kelowna). She arrived in VANCOUVER in 1889, a 26-year-old widow with 3 young children. After running a bakery in the city for 7 years she moved to Trout Lake City in the LARDEAU area east of ARROW LK, where a SILVER-mining boom was in progress. For almost 50 years she operated the Windsor Hotel and prospected in the surrounding hills long after the boom had collapsed. Others moved away from Trout Lake...
