Kaleden

KALEDEN, pop 1,269, is a community on the west side of SKAHA LK in the OKANAGAN VALLEY, 13 km south of PENTICTON. The site was a camping ground for passing FUR BRIGADES. A townsite was established in 1909 as the centre of an orchard area (see TREE FRUITS) and a contest was held to name it. The winning entry, suggested by Rev Walter Russell, combines kalos, Greek for "beautiful," and Eden.
