Kokoro Dance

KOKORO DANCE is a Vancouver-based dance troupe co-founded in 1986 by Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi. It combines western dance techniques with butoh, a dance form developed in post-WWII Japan and characterized by raw, emotional movement that expresses interior states of being. Kokoro Dance has appeared across N America and in Europe, performing original choreography to original musical scores. The name of the company is the Japanese word for heart, soul and spirit.
