Mamalilaculla


MAMALILACULLA is a KWAKWAKA'WAKW (Kwakiutl) village on the west side of VILLAGE ISLAND, one of the jumble of islands in the INSIDE PASSAGE between VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland at the entrance to KNIGHT INLET. It is the main village site of the Mamaleleqala people and in 1921 was the site of a famous POTLATCH, hosted by the Cranmer family, which resulted in several arrests by the authorities.
