McKAY, Joseph William, fur trader, businessman (b 31 Jan 1829, Rupert's House, QC; d 21 Dec 1900, Victoria). He was born to mixed-blood parents at a remote fur trade post on James Bay and joined the HBC himself in 1844, when he was 15 years old.
