McLure

McLURE, pop 285, on the CNR 44 km north of KAMLOOPS, was named after John McLure (1849–1933), a settler who arrived in the area in 1906. Residents are involved in ranching (see CATTLE INDUSTRY), LOGGING and TOURISM. Small current-powered reaction ferries (see BIG BAY) have crossed the N THOMPSON R here since 1919, when the site was known as Fishtrap.
