Mesachie Lake

MESACHIE LAKE was a thriving LOGGING centre on the south shore of COWICHAN LK. Established in 1943 by the Hillcrest Lumber Co, it was the site of a SAWMILL and timber operations until the supply of wood ran out in 1968. A BC Forest Research Station is nearby (see FORESTRY). Mesachie is a CHINOOK JARGON word meaning "ill-tempered."
