Nahun

NAHUN, on the west side of OKANAGAN LK 22 km north of KELOWNA, was named by Howard B. Kennard, first postmaster (1905) after an OKANAGAN First Nation legend explaining the origin of a large rock near the wharf. The FUR BRIGADES of the HBC knew it as the Golden Gate, because they could easily confine their horses here when they camped. The area was settled prior to WWI but with the disruption of the war most people left the district.
