PHILLIPPS-WOLLEY, Edward Clive Oldnall Long, sportsman, writer (b 1854, Dorsetshire, England; d 1918, Duncan). An English military officer and diplomat, he inherited a country estate in 1876, whereupon he resigned his commission and took up a career in the law. Big-game hunting was his passion, however, and in 1890 he was attracted to BC by its sporting potential.
