Poplar Creek

POPLAR CREEK, a former MINING settlement and ARROWHEAD & KOOTENAY RWY station, is 100 km southeast of REVELSTOKE on the Lardeau R. It was the site of the Lucky Jack GOLD strike in 1903; a townsite with 4 stores, 6 hotels and 7 saloons quickly sprang up, but the gold didn't last and people soon moved away. The village continued as a LOGGING centre until the 1950s but little remains.
