Port Mellon


PORT MELLON is a pulp mill site at the mouth of the Rainy R, on the west side of HOWE SOUND not far from Langdale. Originally used as a village site by the SQUAMISH nation, it was developed between 1907 to 1909 as a PULP AND PAPER mill by the British-Canadian Wood Pulp and Paper Co and named for one of the company's backers, Henry A. MELLON. Over the years the mill shut down periodically and changed hands several times. The nearby Seaside Hotel, built in 1907, was a popular TOURIST destination...
