RULE, Jane Vance, writer (b 28 Mar 1931, Plainfield, NJ; d Nov 27, 2007, Galiano I). She came to VANCOUVER from the US in 1956 and taught literature at UBC intermittently until 1976. That year she moved to GALIANO ISLAND. Her first novel, Desert of the Heart (1964), a lesbian classic, was the basis for the movie Desert Hearts.
