Ruskin


RUSKIN was a tiny SAWMILLING community at the mouth of the Stave R, 50 km east of VANCOUVER. It began as a socialist discussion group led by Charles Whetham, a local settler. The group, inspired by the ideas of the British art critic John Ruskin, formed the Canadian Co-operative Society in 1896 and built the sawmill soon after.
