Sandspit

SANDSPIT, pop 435, is a small community on the northeast tip of Moresby Island at the entrance to Skidegate Inlet in the QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS. LOGGING began in the area in 1940 and in 1943 the Royal Canadian Air Force built an airstrip that is now the main AIRPORT in the Islands, with scheduled flights to VANCOUVER and PRINCE RUPERT. The ferry to SKIDEGATE on Graham Island goes from nearby ALLIFORD BAY.
