Silviculture


SILVICULTURE is the art and science of growing and tending trees. In BC, where the FOREST INDUSTRY has relied heavily on clear-cut systems, silviculture may begin with the preparation of the soil for tree planting by scarification, slash burning or drainage. Seedlings are grown in nurseries from seeds obtained from wild trees or seed orchards. The young trees, usually 1–2 years old, are planted at predetermined densities.
