Slocan Park

SLOCAN PARK is a LOGGING and farming settlement 24 km west of NELSON on the SLOCAN R and CPR line. W.C.E. Koch built a SAWMILL nearby in 1904. It was originally called Gutelius after Frederick Passmore Gutelius, general manager of the COLUMBIA & WESTERN RWY, who also may have contributed his name to Passmore, a neighbouring village and site of a sawmill and lumber company that grew into SLOCAN FOREST PRODUCTS. Many DOUKHOBORS settled in the area.
