Steamboat Mountain


STEAMBOAT MOUNTAIN, now Shawatum Mt (el 2,158 m), is a prominent landmark overlooking the SKAGIT Valley southeast of HOPE. In 1908 it was the site of a GOLD discovery by 2 American miners. During the ensuing rush, 3 townsites appeared. In 1911 the discovery turned out to be a fraud and the boom turned to bust.
