Stewart, Helen (Hunt) and Mary (McIlwaine)


STEWART, Helen (Hunt) and Mary (McIlwaine), swimmers. Helen (b 28 Dec 1938) was taught to swim at the VANCOUVER Amateur Swim Club by Percy NORMAN and Howard Firby. In 1954 she won the silver medal in the 4 x 110-yard freestyle relay at the British Empire Games (see BRITISH EMPIRE AND COMMONWEALTH GAMES) and in 1955 she won gold in the 100-m freestyle as well as 2 relay silvers at the Pan American Games in Mexico City.
