Sumas Prairie


SUMAS PRAIRIE  () is an area of fertile lowlands below Sumas Mt, south of the FRASER R east of ABBOTSFORD. Until the 1920s it was covered by Sumas Lk, which drained into the Fraser via Sumas R. Each spring the lake inundated the surrounding valley. The local Sumas First Nation used it to fish and hunt waterfowl.
