Surge Narrows


SURGE NARROWS is one of the passages through the jumble of islands between VANCOUVER ISLAND and the mainland at the north end of GEORGIA STRAIT. It lies between QUADRA and MAURELLE islands and is well travelled by boaters using the "middle passage" through the islands. The current in the Narrows reaches 12 knots. Surge Narrows is also the name of a small community east of the pass on READ ISLAND. Following WWI it was home to Robert and Margaret Tipton, who operated a store, farm and post office...
