Toby Creek

TOBY CREEK, 115 km south of GOLDEN, was a MINING camp named after Dr Levi Toby from Colville, WA, who prospected here in 1864. The site is on the edge of the PURCELL WILDERNESS CONSERVANCY, 20 km southwest of the ski resort at Panorama Ridge. A lead–ZINCSILVER–barite deposit was worked from 1953 to 1967 by Sheep Creek Mines Ltd, after which the camp was closed down.
