Towhee

TOWHEE is a large SPARROW found in brushy thickets and backyard gardens in southern BC. The spotted towhee (Pipilo maculatus), the only species that breeds in the province, has a black hood and red-brown sides. With a characteristic double kicking motion, towhees search for seeds and other food items under fallen leaves.
