Vedder Crossing

VEDDER CROSSING, 7 km south of CHILLIWACK, is a farming community (see AGRICULTURE) that got its start in the early 1900s. The VEDDER R is named after Volkert Vedder, who arrived in the FRASER VALLEY in 1859 and later acquired land in this area. His son Adam became a successful farmer and politician. A bridge crosses the Vedder here; upstream of the bridge the river is known as the CHILLIWACK R.
