WALKER, Alexander, soldier (b 12 May 1764, Collessie, Scotland; d 5 Mar 1831, Edinburgh, Scotland). He joined the East India Co when he was a teenager and went to India as part of the company's private armed force in 1781. In 1785 he took leave to join a trading excursion to the northwest coast of America led by J.C.S. Strange. Walker commanded a small group of soldiers intended to establish a garrison.
