WATTS, George, Nuu-chah-nulth leader (b 1945, Port Alberni; d 31 May 2005, Nanaimo). An advocate for ABORIGINAL RIGHTS and autonomy, he was a prominent leader of the Tseshaht First Nation (NUU-CHAH-NULTH) near PORT ALBERNI for several decades. He served as president of the Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council from 1970 to 1993 and represented the Tseshaht as chief negotiator in the treaty process.
