Westwold


WESTWOLD, pop 369, is located 60 km northwest of VERNON where the Salmon R valley widens. The first settlers in the 1860s called this area Grande Prairie and the name was in use for many years. A post office near the west end of the prairie was called Adelphi in 1900 but changed in 1926 to Westwold ("wold" being an old English word for a high plain) after the CNR completed its line from KAMLOOPS to the OKANAGAN VALLEY.
