White Rock


 

WHITE ROCK, city, pop 21,939 (2021), is a beachfront community overlooking Semiahmoo Bay at the US border, 40 km south of VANCOUVER. It was incorporated on 15 Apr 1957, when it seceded from the municipality of SURREY, which surrounds it on 3 sides. It takes its name from a 437-tonne boulder on the waterfront, painted white to serve as a landmark. Legend has it that a sea god cast the boulder across the ocean to show his strength.
