Whymper, Frederick


WHYMPER, Frederick, artist (b 1838, London, England; d 26 Nov 1901, London, England). As a young man he trained with his father, a well-known London engraver and artist. Frederick was in BC from 1862 to 1867 and visited the CARIBOO goldfields (see also GOLD RUSH, CARIBOO), accompanied Alfred WADDINGTON's road-building crew to BUTE INLET, was the official artist with the VANCOUVER ISLAND EXPLORING EXPEDITION and took part in the construction of the COLLINS OVERLAND TELEGRAPH.
