Wynndel

WYNNDEL, pop 591, a railway junction and farming (see AGRICULTURE) and LOGGING settlement near the south end of KOOTENAY LK, was first settled around 1900. It was the site of the early Duck Creek Hotel. Much arable land was created in 1940 as a result of the CRESTON flats reclamation. A grain elevator, several food-processing plants and a specialty SAWMILL, which has been in the Monrad family since 1913, are located here. Wynndel was named for a local fruit grower.
